This video provides guidance for homeowners to properly collect first and fifth liter water samples, walking through each step to ensure accurate results and comply with the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. It covers sampling preparation, technique, documentation, and timely return of the sample kit to protect public health.

This video was developed by the New England Water Works Association Corrosion Control Committee and premiered at the 2026 Spring Conference. Utilities are encouraged to share this video with customers and post on websites/social media for educational purposes.

Take the Corrosion Committee’s Survey – NEWWA’s Corrosion Committee has created a survey to help water systems in New England find analogous systems that may be used as a case study in their evaluation of optimum corrosion control for compliance with the LCRR. Utility staff are invited to complete the survey by clicking here.

Please note that survey results shall be used for informational purposes only and should not be regarded as professional engineering advice or used for regulatory compliance. Changes in water quality and treatment should always be reviewed and approved by the applicable State regulatory agency and licensed water quality/treatment professional.
